Bead-based HTS applications in drug discovery from Bangs Laboratories
October 2000, Fishers, IN. Bangs Laboratories offers reprints of a recently published article, written by Mary Meza, VP Technology, entitled Bead-based HTS applications in drug discovery. This paper, published in the June 2000 HTS supplement to Drug Discovery Today, highlights the most advanced developments in bead-based screening assays, and includes a brief history of beads and their adaptation to a variety of assay formats. In response to demand, microsphere technology has evolved with regard to bead size, composition, and surface properties to improve separation and detection techniques. The increasing number of specialized features has resulted in greater adaptability and expanded utilization of microspheres within a variety of platforms. An overview of popular bead-based assays, citing experts within each field, is presented within the article, and included are scintillation proximity assays, amplified luminescence proximity homogeneous assays, flow cytometry, electrochemiluminescence, magnetic bead-based peptide screening, fluorescence imaging assays, and non-imaging bead systems.
